Matthieu Claus is an artist and a high school art teacher. His paintings are fictional landscapes made up of images he takes on industrial junkyards. During his visit to these metal scrapyards, the artist takes hundreds of photos he carefully stores in his digital archive. These photos are an almost unlimited source of inspiration for his paintings. In his early work, the artist was mainly looking for a geometrically shaped visual language; his more recent canvasses on the other hand, contain more organic shapes and have a layered background. Often the artists uses a pattern to add rythm and a repetitive element. This makes these paintings more lyrical, less architectural but more abstract.
