Zoon van de Schrijnwerker (alias for Nico De Kind) usually creates his work on wood, remnants from the carpentry trade, which to him have potential as an art object. The simple imagery he uses often emphasises the austere material he works on. His themes are inspired by industrial roughness, urban environments, pop and subcultures. To him, these worlds are a visual playing field from which he can draw endless inspiration. He elaborates a detail of a neon sign from the street scene or an abstraction of urban lines in a simple colour pallet. The artist does not lose himself in details, but retains pure form and colour.
