After graduating in Applied Arts, Josse De Maasschalck studied audiovisual techniques at Narafi in Brussels. As a scriptwriter and director, he wants to tell a story, based on his memories of his childhood and a nostalgic past. This idea is also reflected in the artist’s paintings. His canvases seem like theatre backdrops for a play.  They are seemingly naively painted decors of the local amateur theatre company, taken from the simple everyday life. The works of art are not romantic dream images or surrealistic landscapes in a sweet colour palette.They are the artist’s childhood memories that made him to the man he is now.
