Mir Van Nyvelseel’s sculptures available in our collection are all made out of paper. They have a robust appearance despite being made of a brittle material. The artist makes paper pulp and handmade paper herself from paper scraps, plants or cotton. The mash of fibres then is dried, processed and layer by layer formed into a hard and inflexible form. These organic forms do not necessarily have meaning. Finally, the raw sculpture is given a bright colour coat of acrylic paint or pure pigment which is mixed with sand, wax glue or casein. The sculptures are powerful objects that claim their place every space.
