Luc Vandervelde has been making abstract collages on paper and canvas for several years. He interweaves a multitude of patterns and traces in a variety of materials. In his Brussels atelier he experiments with different materials and textures (old carpets, fabrics, plastic, felt, …). The artist tells about his work: “In the past my figurative canvases were more social documents, for example about how people Central Asia survived after the Soviet era.” After this figurative period, his fascination for abstract expressionism led to today’s abstraction.
