The ambiguous relationship between representation and reality, between image and meaning, is characteristic in the oeuvre of Joost Gevaert. Through the image, reality is questioned, as is the legitimacy of the image. Where is the boundary between perception and truth? Between sense and nonsense? The artist questions this in an intuitive way, sometimes poetic, sometimes with the necessary humor.
