Images and snapshots (obtained by photos and videostills) are repeatedly processed by Jelle Van Hulle. His work consists of collages on (used) silk paper that refer to poster culture. Van Hulle, also a teacher in Bruges, is very familiar with the latest media techniques and makes original use of them in his work. The collage technique results in a blurred and indistinct look and is thus even more volatile than the original image.
The work as a whole becomes an allegory of contemporary video culture and raises questions about serial and unique art, about the sense and nonsense of image quality and above all about the visual truth that this culture presents to us: is an image of a young woman next to a coffee machine enough to trivialise her as a coffee lady?
