The visual language of Lesage’s art is characterized by elements that she derives from her dense environment. The registration of traces that replace human presence and thus emphasize absence, is a recurring theme in her work. Els’ recent work is inspired by her grandmother’s house. With the camera fixed on a tripod at a height of 130 cm – the eye level of an 8-year-old child – Els went through the house to record small details: cracks in the wallpaper, left behind brackets, discolored prints on the wall, etc. These traces from her childhood were recorded in this way and form the starting point for her recent work.
