Lives and works in Mons (BE)

Rodrigue Delattre’s work explores human vulnerability through a unique combination of drawing, painting and graphic design. His figures are often abstracted, parts of their bodies hidden in a grid of lines. This abstraction removes individuality, yet conveys emotions such as fear and pain, alluding to the darker side of human existence.
Delattre’s work conveys a false sense of uncertainty. But it is precisely this that the artist aims for: the viewer is led astray. His work encourages questioning and cognitive reflection. For example, the artist paints perfectly yellowed paper or oldschool checkered paper, which adds a historical dimension and reference to his own school days but at the same time a trompe l’oeil to his work.

His art moves between different media, creating a complex, coded universe full of contradictions and ambiguous signs.
Deep black geometric forms balance with white space, creating a space where interpretation is open and personal. Delattre’s art is a provocative, ever-evolving visual proposal that challenges viewers to engage with its ambiguity.
