Lives and works in Tielt (BE)
As an autodidact, Thibo Moreels trains himself in various disciplines: drawing, painting and creating quirky sculptures. His work has great variety and duality, which is also a reflection of Thibo’s personality: contrasting, colourful, mysterious and dreamy.
Thibo Moreels is constantly looking for that interaction between his different mediums. Alternating between painting and sculptural work helps him to look at his creations with an innovative fresh look, to reflect and evolve and to search for new ideas.
His sculptural creations have their origin during his search for materials in flea markets, thrift shops, attics, objet-trouvé, etc. Moreels collects those things when he is attracted by with their shape, color, contrasts or finesse.
The recycling and upcycling of objects is very present in his work. Of a great importance are the aesthetics of the stuff we all too often throw away. By assembling and repositioning the objects, he finds a new purpose and creates an added value for the things which seem worthless. Coincidence plays an important role in his creation process. Putting together and assembling his creations is a blessing for the artist, but also pleases the eyes of the viewer. They really shine in front of each other.
