The work of the Dutch artist Martha Scheeren is all about color and light. As an art student, Martha was trained as a classical painter. During her first years in art school craftmanship and “painting what you saw” was taught. But getting more experienced, the figurative element gradually disappeared from Martha’s work. It has not returned to this day. With her work, this artist wants to portray color as an optical phenomenon – as a property of light. Colors that are vibrant and energetic, making it seem as if the painting itself is the source of light. It is unquestionable that the best spaces for these paintings are the ones with natural bright light.
