Vandenbranden was one of the most important Belgian post-war constructivists. Banishing all emotion out of a work of art, constructivists purify mathematical relationships in their purely abstract geometrical works. The brightly coloured surfaces in combination with wide black lines give this work an emotional charge, which therefore was not the intention of the artist.
