The painting technique of Chris Vanderschaeghe is clear, we see a light and fairly invisible touch. His use of paint is serene and his backgrounds are always uniform. The figures themselves do get a certain layered texture. He keeps it sober and recognisable. Form seems simple at first and he sticks to the classical figuration. His portraits are painted or drawn in charcoal. The composition brings his characters closer to reality.
